Locator Control

Locator are used to divide sub-inventories into ROWs, BINs and RACKs to identify the items where exactly located in the inventory. We can use stock locater flex field to configure the number of segments required for locators (By default 2 segments and max is 7 segments).
Locators should be unique at inventory organization level but we will define at sub-inventory level. We can determine locators at three levels.
·         Organization Level
·         Sub-Inventory Level
·         Item Level
Organization Locator Control will override sub-inventory level and sub-inventory level will override item level.
Organization-Level Locator Control Options:
Navigation: MCR INV ->Setup ->Organization ->Parameter

We have 4 locator control options in Inventory Organization level
None: Oracle Inventory ever requests locator information while you perform a transaction for this organization.
Prespecified only: Oracle Inventory requires locator information while you perform a transaction for this organization. You must choose a locator from a list of locators that you have prespecified.
Dynamic entry allowed: Oracle Inventory requires locator information while you perform a transaction for this organization. You may either choose from a prespecified list of locators or define a locator dynamically when you enter the transaction.
Determined at sub inventory level: We can use the Sub inventory window to set locator control for each individual sub inventory.
Note: Locator control options that you choose at the organization level override the locator control options that you choose at the sub inventory and item levels.
Sub Inventory-Level Locator Control Options:
Navigation: Setup ->Organization ->Sub Inventories
Click on Open Button
We have 4 locator control options in Sub Inventory level
None: Oracle Inventory ever requests locator information while you perform a transaction for this Sub Inventory.
Prespecified: Oracle Inventory requires locator information while you perform a transaction for this Sub Inventory. You must choose a locator from a list of locators that you have prespecified for this Sub Inventory.
Dynamic entry: Oracle Inventory requires locator information while you perform a transaction for this Sub Inventory. You may either choose from a prespecified list of locators or define a locator dynamically when you enter the transaction.
Item Level: This determines whether Oracle Inventory requires locator information when you perform a transaction for this item.
Note: If your organization-level locator control choice is “Locator control determined at sub inventory level,” you must choose a locator control option for each sub inventory in your organization.

If we trying to do change from None to Dynamic Entry Allowed or Determined at Sub Inventory Level we will get below Caution.
Note: Locators controls should be define before doing transactions at sub-inventory level else we cannot create/define locator controls on sub inventories. If we trying to do change from None to prespecified only we will get below error.
Note: For Oracle Order Management, if an item is reservable, you can manually reserve a specific locator at order entry or let pick release use Inventory picking rules to suggest the locator when the order is picked. If the item is not Reservable, Inventory picking rules will suggest the locator when the order is picked.
Attention: You cannot change locator control when an item has quantity on hand.
Define new item MI-lctr03 in Item master and select locator control as Pre Specified and check the check boxes Restrict Sub Inventory and Restrict Locators.

Item-Level Locator Control Options:
Navigation: Items > Master Items
We have 3 locator control options in Item level
None: Oracle Inventory ever requests locator information while you perform a transaction for an Item.
Prespecified: Oracle Inventory requires locator information while you perform a transaction for an Item. You must choose a locator from a list of locators that you have prespecified for this Item.
Dynamic entry: Oracle Inventory requires locator information while you perform a transaction for this Item. You may either choose from a prespecified list of locators or define a locator dynamically when you enter the transaction.
Locator Control: No Control and save the changes.

Organization Locator Control as Determined at Sub Inventory Level:
Navigation: Setup ->Organization ->Parameter
If Locator Control is Determined at Sub Inventory Level then only we can have a option to changes Locator Control at Sub Inventory Level
Navigation: Setup >Organization >Sub Inventories > Open > Query for MIH-S4
Locator Control: Dynamic Entry

Miscellaneous Transactions:
Navigation: MCR INV > Transactions > Miscellaneous Transactions > Type as Miscellaneous receipt > Transaction Lines
Here Locator should be mandatory and it is dynamic entry.

Locator Control: Pre-specified

Miscellaneous Transactions:
Navigation: MCR INV > Transactions > Miscellaneous Transactions > Type as Miscellaneous receipt > Transaction Lines.
Here Locator should be mandatory and it should be use the predefined locators and can’t use new locators like (3.3.3).

Since locator 1.1.1 is already used so it will accept.
